#GuildChat for 04/24/2015: Mobile Technologies and Performance Support

Our next #GuildChat takes place Friday April 24th at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Our topic for this week’s chat is Mobile Technologies and Performance Support.

2015-01-09_11-14-16Mobile technologies have changed the ways we interact with the world. When we talk about mobile in the context of our work as learning professionals, we often talk about it in the context of how these devices can extend and enhance learning. But mlearning, despite it’s name, needs to go beyond just the traditional view of what learning looks like to reach it’s full potential.

In this week’s #GuildChat we’re going to explore how mobile technologies can be used to support individuals in that act of work. We’ll examine what that means, and the opportunities and limitations that meaning includes. We’ll explore the possibilities that mobile devices provide that are outside the traditional scope of what “learning” looks like. We’ll also explore what knowledge and skills are needed for learning professionals interested in playing in this new space.

Here are the questions currently scheduled to be posed during the chat.

  • Without using industry jargon, what does the term “performance support” mean to you?
  • “Performance Support isn’t about learning” – do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?
  • What are some critical components of effective performance support solutions?
  • Why is mobile technology such a growing part of the performance support conversation?
  • What examples can you think of where your mobile phone provides performance support in daily life?
  • What are some of the challenges associated with using mobile technologies for performance support?
  • What about wearable technology? Where do you see that fitting into the mobile performance support conversation?

2:23 PM LnDDave RT @britz: A3. A critical component of effective performance support – accesibility #guildchat
2:23 PM JustRogering a3) good PC needs to be adaptable  and intelligent to know when it is needed.#guildchat

2:26 PM britz “To know where you can find anything is, after all, the greatest part of erudition.” – from King William’s College #guildchat
2:26 PM breecouch_ @eLearningGuild PS is about having the support I need to do my job effectively. It’s kind of like a side-kick. #GuildChat
2:26 PM eLearningGuild Q4) Why is mobile technology such a growing part of the performance support conversation? #GuildChat
2:26 PM AjayPangarkar a3) the most important component, having employees understand perf. objectives – work w/ end in mind #guildchat
